La Manga and beyond: a society week in the sun.
Three courses at one resort, so nobody needs a minibus. A plan for a society week in Murcia, and the Nicklaus courses up the road.
The trip in a minute
La Manga Club has three full courses on one resort, which is exactly what a society trip needs: one base, no transfers, and a different course each day.
The South is the championship course, the North is the friendlier one, and the West is the hilly one through the pines. If the group wants more, La Torre, Hacienda Riquelme, El Valle and Saurines are all a short drive away.
The courses
South Course
Par 73 · about 6,500 m from the back · opened 1971
The championship course, designed by Robert Dean Putman and remodelled by Arnold Palmer in 2005. The one everybody wants to play.
North Course
Par 71 · about 5,750 m off the whites
Also a Putman design, shorter and more forgiving. The best course for mixed handicaps.
West Course
Par 72 · about 5,800 to 6,000 m
The hilly one, through pines and valleys, opened in 1996. Tight in places, and you'll want a buggy.
Which course to play on which day, the tees to pick for your handicap, and the holes you'll still be talking about at the bar.
