The trip in a minute

East Lothian runs along the coast east of Edinburgh, and it has more good links golf per mile than anywhere. You can stay in one town, play a different course every day and never drive more than half an hour.

Mix the famous rounds at North Berwick and Gullane No.1 with cheaper gems like Kilspindie and Gullane No.2, and the week costs less than a weekend in Fife.

The courses

North Berwick West Links

Par 71 · about 6,500 yards · club formed 1832

One of the oldest clubs in the world, home of the original Redan, the 15th, which has been copied all over the world. 2026 fees start at £220 in March and are around £320 in peak season. Visitor days are limited, so check before you book.

Gullane

Three courses: No.1 and No.2 par 71, No.3 par 67

No.1 is the championship course; No.2 is a proper links at well under half the price; No.3 is short and fun. No.1 has a handicap limit of 24 for men and 30 for women. No.1 visitors check in at the Members' Clubhouse, No.2 and No.3 at the Links Clubhouse.

Dunbar

Par 71 · club formed 1856

A rocky, seaside links along the shore of the Firth of Forth, and a former Open final qualifying venue. Fees vary a lot by day, so check with the club.

Kilspindie

Par 69 · about 5,500 yards

The hidden gem at Aberlady. Short, quirky and right on the water. Fees are around £90 to £120.
