Altaona: the new course under the mountains.

One of Murcia's newest courses, laid out in the foothills of the Sierra de Carrascoy just outside Murcia city. Fly it or run it in: the choice is yours.

The trip in a minute

Altaona Golf and Country Village is one of the newest courses in the region, fully open since 2019. It sits in the foothills of the Sierra de Carrascoy Natural Park, just south of Murcia city, so expect hills, big views and a different feel to the flat resort courses near the coast.

It was designed by Stirling and Martin Golf Architects, and on most holes you can choose to fly the ball onto the green or run it in, which suits the club golfer who'd rather bump and run than hit a high wedge. The whole course is laid with Paspalum grass, which copes well with the Murcia heat.

Inland, hilly and modern, on Paspalum grass. It used to be called Mosa Trajectum, so older maps may still use that name. Reported lengths vary between sources, so check the scorecard with the club.

Altaona is close to the Nicklaus courses, so it's easy to fit into a Murcia week. See our El Valle, Hacienda Riquelme, La Torre and Saurines guides.
