Vale do Lobo and the Algarve.
Two courses at one resort, and one of the most photographed par 3s in Europe. Vale do Lobo, and why you'll want a buggy in the afternoon.
The trip in a minute
Vale do Lobo has two courses, the Royal and the Ocean, and both finish their round with holes along the cliffs above the Atlantic.
The Royal's 16th is the one on the postcards: a long par 3 across the ravines to a green on the cliff edge. Book ahead, take a buggy in the heat, and save some balls for that tee.
The courses
Royal Course
Par 72 · about 6,050 m
Home of the famous clifftop 16th, a par 3 of roughly 220 to 245 yards from the back across the ravines.
Ocean Course
Par 73 · about 6,700 yards
The friendlier of the two, with its own clifftop par 3 at the 16th. A good warm-up before the Royal.
Which course to play on which day, the tees to pick for your handicap, and the holes you'll still be talking about at the bar.
